Electric sailing is becoming an increasingly popular phenomenon not only because of its eco-friendly role but because it cuts out excessive engine vibrations and noise.
One of the pioneers of the maritime e-propulsion movement is Mastervolt who offers complete electric systems and integrated solutions for hybrid sailing. The company has conducted a lot of research into making its entire range of electrical systems hybrid capable, and setting industry standards for more e-power installations in boats. The company was also the pioneer of the 12V and 24V Lithium-Ion marine battery, which is ideally suited to deep-cycle applications such as propulsion.
It’s difficult for the average boater to believe in the benefits of such systems without seeing them in action and you can do this at the HISWA TE Water Boat Show (September 6 to September 11) at the Marina Seaport Ijmuiden in The Netherlands. As part of the EU-funded HYMAR (Hybrid Marine) initiative Mastervolt will be running a series of free practical demonstrations during the five-day event to show the benefits of electric drives. The company’s e-powered Dutch sloep will be on display in the harbour for visitors to test-drive and experience for themselves how efficient and powerful an e-drive can be.
Mastervolt will also be showing off its PodMaster drives in which the motor is suspended beneath the boat in a pod, and experienced technicians will be on hand to offer advice on the necessary controllers, chargers and battery banks.
The company is also planning to visit other boat shows around Europe this autumn to promote electric drives as the future of boating.
