This year’s prestigious eco-friendly maritime award The Mansura Trophy goes to Green Motion, a cutting-edge new catamaran that runs on a special propulsion and generation system. The brains behind the boat, African Cats BV, were presented with the award at the Royal Thames Yacht Club just a couple of weeks ago.

The Mansura Trophy was developed by the Club in association with Bosch Engineering, the RYA and Green Blue and encourages the development of new forms of hybrid power. Eligible vessels must use at least two independent sources of propulsive power, and the final drive system must be electrical.

The winner Green Motion was built in Durban, South Africa and features very lightweight construction and the innovative Green Motion propulsion / generation system. The vessel allows batteries to be recharged while under sail and completed her first successful voyage to the Netherlands via Cape Town, St Helena and the Azores in 2010.
