Luxury Moorings in Qatar

Lusail’s first luxury marina developed by Mourjan Marinas in Qatar combines first class facilities with eco-friendly practices

After months in the making, Lusail Marina in the city of Lusail, Qatar is officially open for yachting business. The new luxury leisure marine development, headed by Mourjan Marinas IGY, is situated just north of Doha and is poised to become a prime yachting destination in the UAE.

The marina boasts a range of modern facilities for your beloved boat, including underwater lighting, black and grey water ‘pump-out’ berths, a fuel service station, 24-hour security, a five-star concierge service, laundry and Wi-fi services. What’s more, Lusail Marina ensures a high staff to berth ratio so boat owners benefit from a very personal, one-on-one service.

Once you’ve docked your yacht you can enjoy the range of luxury lifestyle attractions around the marina including a glitzy clubhouse, three on-water lounge areas, a shisha café, juice bar and family lounge area. To cope with the sweltering temperatures during the summer, integrated misting technology has been installed to cool the walkways along with large contemporary shade structures.

In addition to stylish aesthetics and the latest technology, Lusail Marina has done its bit for the environment. The aluminium marina systems were built with non-corrosive recyclable materials such as marine-grade aluminium alloy frames, composite wood decking, plastic floats and stainless steel hardware.

A mangrove habitat was also planted to promote eco awareness, and the complex complies with Gold Anchor, Blue Flag and Clean Marinas Status guidelines.

Director of Operations Matthew Bate tells The Marine Guide, “Our goal is to nurture the boating industry and promote it as an accessible and valuable way of life in the Middle East, whether it’s competitive sports, recreation or simply quality time with the family. Offering more than simply a place to berth yachts; Lusail Marina will bring the community a yachting and marina lifestyle experience.”

There are 96 floating marina berths situated around the stunning waterfront destination accommodating yachts ranging in size from 10m to 40m (33ft to 131ft). The first yacht to be welcomed at the beginning of June was the 29 metre yacht ‘Lulwa’ owned by Salman Jassim Al Darwish, Chairman and CEO of Porsche, and since then berths have been filling up fast. It has already attracted a slew of high profile boat owners who like the privacy and exclusivity of the marina.

And what to do when you get there? Surrounded by warm, crystal clear waters on all three sides, Qatar offers countless possibilities for sailing, motor boating and water sports (jet-skiing, wakeboarding, kayaking, diving and parasailing, to name a few). Moreover, the emirate now plays host to a number of high-profile international events such as the Jet Ski Grand Prix, international sailing regattas and the Formula One World Powerboat Championship – all of which can be watched from the comfort of your yacht.

Bate also recommends visiting the beautiful waters of Corniche Bay and Banana Island and suggests that “those looking to spend a more relaxing time on the water can rent a traditional dhow or luxury yacht for a sunset cruise.”

The marina is just the first of multiple marinas to be built in the region, firmly putting Qatar on the map as a new pleasure boating destination.
