Le Piano, A Kitchen’s Best Friend

You may be wondering how a piano and a kitchen go together but we’re not talking about the musical instrument here, we’re talking about De Dietrich’s first 100% total zone free induction hob. This avant-garde kitchen fitting is a revolution in induction hobs. The name “Le Piano” stems from a favorite saying of French chefs in reference to cooking, “I am going to compose on my Piano.” And, like a piano, this new-fangled hob oozes precision and elegance and allows for complete freedom of creativity.

French company De Dietrich first introduced induction cooking technology to the culinary world in the early 80s. The technology is capable of giving you instant power together with perfectly homogeneous heat distribution, all at the touch of a finger. Based on the principle of magnetism, an inductor underneath the glass surface creates a magnetic field when a pan is placed on the hob. This starts the production of heat with maximum output. It’s proven to be twice as fast as other cooking methods as well as being the most energy efficient.

Le Piano’s simple, pure lines will integrate seamlessly into any kitchen unit, including onboard your luxury yacht. The sleek dark glass hob offers 2,600cm2 of free zone that can simultaneously heat different spots. This is thanks to 36 independent inductors offering a flexible temperature range from 50 W to 10,800 W of power. Plus the beauty of induction technology means there is no risk of fire (the hobs cut out at high temperatures).

In culinary terms, nothing is impossible with Le Piano. You can choose to heat the whole zone to one temperature or create different cooking zones at different temperatures.  Plus the power track function allows cookware to be moved without heat loss. The hob also features a large 115,2mm x 86,4mm touch sensitive display and control panel, which tracks all movements on the hob and allows for full foolproof control. What’s more, since heat is only produced at the point of contact between the saucepan and the cooking zone, any spills can be wiped away with a sponge and won’t burn onto the glass surface.

It took five long years of research and development and 10 patents to create Le Piano and it was awarded with the 2010 Janus Industry Award.  With all that behind it, the culinary outcome can only be good!
