You’ll soon be hearing much more about Ras Al Khaimah, one of the UAE’s lesser known emirates, as it’s set to emerge as a tourist hot spot in the coming years.
According to Ras Al Khaimah’s tourism authority, some $100 million is to be invested in hotel and tourism projects in the coming four years in the hope of quadrupling the visitor count to the region. The emirate is located east of the Persian Gulf, in the north of the UAE, on the border with Oman.
According to chief operating officer Victor Louis, “[Ras Al Khaimah] is one of the few destinations in the UAE and the Middle East which provides value for money,” and they hope to see tourism account for 20 per cent of Ras Al Khaimah’s total income by 2021.
The glitzy Waldorf Astoria hotel and two new shopping centres, the Ras Al Khaimah Mall and the Al Naim mall, are set to be completed this year. Similarly, the man-made Marjan Island, a luxury hotel, resort and beach complex, remains under construction but is sure to attract some top name brand companies to develop on the land.
And let’s not forget the boating potential in the region!
