Welcome to my website, The Marine Guide. This is my first blog post in this section and these are always a bit tough to start off. Which leads me to believe that an introduction is in order. My name is Ruth Chocron. I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina but I’ve been living and working in London for the last 7 years.
I am the Director and Editor of The Marine Guide and am happy to announce the launch of a new, very exciting section of our website, The Editor’s Blog. This is where you will find blog posts about the things that we’re passionate about here at The Marine Guide. The reason behind creating this section of the site is to allow me to get a bit closer to the users of this site and to give visitors something more personal. I’ve decided that instead of using my first blog to write about a product I love, or a service in the boating industry that I have experienced, I will introduce myself. So with no further a hesitation, here is a little bit about myself and the path this wonderful world has taken me on.
My first trip abroad was when I was 17 and I realised then that it is the people who make this world so exciting and different. I loved how different cultures embraced different clothes and costumes, food, architecture, and essentially have a unique impact (for better or worse) on nature. I never stopped travelling since these early days. In school, I studied psychology, but I was most interested in how people express themselves through who they are and where they’re from. Through the objects and products they choose to have in their lives. This is why being a fashion designer was a much better option for me. I was a designer for many years and it took me around the world and allowed me to see some incredible places and meet some truly remarkable people. This experience has made me more interested in experiencing how people live their lives and learn about their cultural nuances. I have to say that I feel equally at home pretty much anywhere in the world.
As a lover of travel and boating, I’ve been travelling to all corners of the world for many years. I love nothing more than discovering new places, people and cultures. As I have already stated, my background in the fashion industry for many years, led me to naturally be fascinated by the way that culture influences fashion in every place of the world; from the Baltics to Buenos Aires, from Dubai to Dublin and from London to the South Pacific.
It’s in my nature to try new things and I see the world as my playground. It’s for this reason that I decided to unite my passions and launch a global site, called “The Marine Guide”, focused on pleasure boating, exotic travel and lifestyle. As well as offering dynamic content, I want to provide a platform for people and businesses to connect around the world and ultimately improve their lifestyle on the water.
Unlike buying a car, buying a boat is a long term commitment and a very exciting thing to own. While a car is a medium that transports you from one place to another, a boat is an end. It’s a diversion and an enjoyment in itself as well as having the ability to take you to magical new places.
For men, a boat is the ultimate boy toy and a way to relax, away from the stresses and strains of the office. For women too, boating has become a passion and nowadays women are taking on a more active role and learning to sail themselves. Boating is a dynamic lifestyle that opens you up to a wealth of possibilities and experiences, from a sailing holiday with friends or family to taking part in a regatta or visiting boat shows and events at home or around the world. This site is aimed at every boating enthusiast who just loves to get on the water. From those people who, every weekend, put their favourite kayak and tie it up to the top of their truck and head out for a paddle on some local white-water, to those whom enjoy sharing a new bottle of Pinot Noir on the deck of their yacht.
Through The Marine Guide, I want to connect boating enthusiasts all over the world and encourage those new to the boating world to test the water and open themselves up to the new experiences and possibilities that they may never have considered.
Since I’m fortunate enough to travel a lot for work and pleasure, I’ve started this blog to share with you my adventures, experiences and photos from around the world. I hope you enjoy reading it.
I aim to really bring myself closer to the community at The Marine Guide and hope that you share all of your comments, opinions and concerns here, via Twitter (@themarineguide) or post something on Facebook (www.facebook.com/themarineguide).
Thank you for your time and truly thank you all for your commitment to the growth of this wonderful industry and, essentially, this amazing lifestyle.
